Hallucinogens

Street Names and Warning Signs

Hallucinogens are psychoactive substances that alter perception, mood, and cognitive processes, leading to intense experiences called “trips.” Although some have therapeutic potential, these drugs pose significant risks, including addiction and severe psychological effects. At Laurel Healing Center in Mount Laurel, NJ, we educate individuals about the dangers of hallucinogens, their street names, and warning signs to promote awareness and support recovery.

LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide)

LSD, commonly known as acid, is a powerful hallucinogenic drug that can produce intense visual and auditory hallucinations. It is usually sold in small square pieces of blotter paper, which are often decorated with colorful designs.

Street Names:

  • Blotter: Referring to the paper format on which LSD is often distributed.
  • Dots: A term used for the small doses of LSD that are consumed.
  • Yellow Sunshine: A specific type of LSD known for its potency and vivid effects.

The effects of LSD can last up to 12 hours, and users may experience altered thoughts, sensory distortions, and a disconnection from reality. While some individuals seek these experiences for recreational purposes, LSD can trigger significant anxiety and psychosis in some users.

Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybin)

PCP (Phencyclidine)

PCP, initially developed as a surgical anesthetic, is a dissociative hallucinogen that can cause feelings of detachment from one’s body and environment. As a street drug, it is often abused in various forms, including powder, pills, or liquid.

Street Names:

  • Angel Dust: A well-known term for PCP that reflects its dangerous and unpredictable effects.
  • Embalming Fluid: Refers to the substance’s initial medicinal use, as well as its toxic implications when abused.

The use of PCP can lead to a range of severe psychological and emotional effects, including hallucinations, extreme agitation, and violent behavior. Users may feel disoriented, detached, or even invincible, leading to risky actions and severe consequences.

Recognizing the Warning Signs of Hallucinogen Use
